Wave Maker Blue: Toyota's Bold 2026 TRD Pro Color Drop
Toyota Drops Wave Maker Blue for 2026 TRD Pro Lineup – Is It Toyota’s Boldest Color Yet?
If there's one thing that gets the off-road community fired up faster than a new trail opening, it's Toyota's annual TRD Pro color drop. And for 2026, they've done something that's got us all talking.
Meet Wave Maker – a robin's egg blue that's about to make every other truck in the parking lot look like it's trying too hard.
After years of earth-toned TRD Pro colors that practically begged to blend in with the trail, Toyota decided to flip the script. This isn't a color that hides dirt well. It's not trying to camouflage with the desert. Wave Maker exists for one reason: to turn heads.
Toyota’s new color is going full-send across the entire 2026 TRD Pro lineup – Tacoma, 4Runner, Tundra, and Sequoia.
And just like previous signature colors, it won't cost you an extra penny if you're already springing for the TRD Pro trim.

Toyota Introduces Wave Maker
Toyota describes the Wave Maker color as a "robin's egg blue," but that doesn't quite capture the full picture. This is a light, almost ethereal shade of blue that shifts between soft powder and vibrant sky depending on the light.
Officially, Wave Maker becomes the 11th TRD Pro-exclusive signature color, joining a lineup that includes everything from the subtle (Cement, Magnetic Gray) to the shouty (Electric Lime, Voodoo Blue).
But unlike some previous colors that felt like experiments, Wave Maker seems purposefully crafted to bridge the gap between eye-catching and everyday livable.
The technical details matter here. Wave Maker is a completely new formulation exclusive to the TRD Pro trim level. That means you can't option it on your SR5 or Limited, giving it a bit of exclusivity.
What's included in that TRD Pro package varies by model, but expect the usual suspects: FOX shocks, skid plates, upgraded wheels, and model-specific goodies.
The color comes at no additional charge; it's just one of your paint options when configuring a 2026 TRD Pro.
Release timing seems to be Fall 2025, which in “Toyota-speak” typically means October or November.
A SEMA Secret That Became a Signature
Back at SEMA 2024, everyone was losing their minds over the TRD Surf concept, an impressive-to-look-at throwback to the original two-door 4Runner with a removable roof.
But while people were all focused on the big picture, Toyota's designers had hidden their real surprise in plain sight.
Those robin's egg blue accents on the emblems, graphics, and trim pieces? That seems to have been Toyota test-driving their next TRD Pro signature color right in front of drivers!
The name "Wave Maker" signals a deliberate shift in Toyota's color philosophy. Where previous TRD Pro exclusives like Terra, Cement, and Mudbath drew inspiration from the dirt and rocks, this new color pulls from the water we all know and love (and sometimes hate).
It's a smart move. As off-roading goes more mainstream and overlanding culture explodes on social media, buyers want rigs that perform on the trail AND look good at the coffee shop. Wave Maker delivers both without trying too hard.
How Wave Maker Hits Different on Each TRD Pro
Not all TRD Pros wear Wave Maker the same way, and that's actually part of the appeal. With the colorway appearing across the lineup, each ride has slightly different variations that you’ll need a keen eye to notice.
The Tacoma TRD Pro
We think that Wave Maker was probably made for the Tacoma. The black roof treatment creates the perfect contrast – and makes the blue pop without looking cartoonish.
The black overfenders and wheel arches frame everything nicely, giving it an almost two-tone effect that Toyota probably didn't plan, but definitely works.
The 4Runner TRD Pro
The 4Runner takes a more subtle approach. With less black trim than the Tacoma but more than the full-size trucks, it strikes a balance.
The color works especially well with the 4Runner's boxy proportions, making it look both retro and futuristic at the same time. It's giving "beach runner that could also handle Moab" vibes.
The Tundra and Sequoia TRD Pros
Can big rigs pull off bright colors? Toyota thinks so.
With minimal black accents, these full-size rides will really show off the Wave Maker color. On vehicles this large, the color reads more sophisticated than playful.
The real test will be how these look with a proper layer of trail dust. Unlike darker colors, Wave Maker is going to show every adventure.
But maybe that's the point. This isn't a color for people who trailer their rigs to car shows. It's for people who want their trips written all over their trucks.
Why This Color Drop Matters More Than You Think
If you've been paying attention to TRD Pro colors over the years, you know they tell a story about where off-road culture is heading.
The early days gave us subdued options like Magnetic Gray and Cavalry Blue. These were colors that whispered capability rather than shouted it.
Then came the bolder moves: Voodoo Blue, Electric Lime, Solar Octane – all proving that Toyota wasn't afraid to get a bit weird with it.
Wave Maker represents something different. It's bold without being aggressive, distinctive without trying too hard.
TRD Pro colors historically hold their value better than standard colors. Wave Maker has all the ingredients to follow suit – it's unique enough to be special but appealing enough to age well.
Is Wave Maker A Colorway For Your Ride?
Toyota could have played it safe with another earth tone for 2026.
Instead, they chose to make waves (pun intended) with a color that challenges what an off-road vehicle should look like.
Whether Wave Maker becomes a classic like Quicksand or a love-it-or-hate-it proposition like Electric Lime, we’ll have to wait and see. But we think that when these colors hit dealerships this fall, they won't be sitting on lots for long.
The real question isn't whether Wave Maker looks good, because on its face, it looks great. But the real question is whether or not the off-road community is ready to embrace a more colorful future. What do you think?
