This fabulous 4x4 route will take you around 2 hours to complete. Even beginners can manage it, as long as they have a 4WD with high clearance, due to rocks and ledges along the way. You’ll get to marvel at the area’s iconic red rock canyons and towering spires as you conquer a natural staircase of rock, ruts, and roots.

New Mexico: Red Sands OHV Area (BLM), Alamogordo

With over 100 miles of easy-to-navigate trails, this sprawling open play area is the perfect place to explore. You won't find tall dunes here, but you'll find plenty of sandy sections and hard-packed 4x4 trails. Plus, there are no fees, it's open year-round, and you can enjoy primitive camping.

Oklahoma: Little Sahara Dunes, Waynoka

If you're looking for some serious off-road action, head to Little Sahara State Park. Here, you'll find over 1,600 acres of small sand dunes ranging from 25 to 75 feet. To make the most of this mini-desert atmosphere, make sure you come equipped to tackle the sand. And that overlanding will find plenty of cool places to set up camp.

Texas: Hidden Falls Adventure Park, Marble Falls

Not far from Austin, you’ll have over 240 miles of motorized off-trails. The paths are made up of everything from soft and hard pack dirt to rocky terrain. Whether you like mild or wild, you'll find it here, plus you'll be treated to incredible scenery, including cascading falls and clear springs.
